Sabres coach Ted Nolan made some interesting comments after the Sabres practice earlier today. Many people take it that it is a hint that there will be some roster moves soon.
“There’s some maneuvering room we can do here. We checked the farm team, see who’s doing well down there. There’s a couple players playing exceptionally well down there that deserve an opportunity.”
Ok it is obvious here. There will be roster moves. He also hinted that Mikhail Grigorenko and Nikita Zadorov will be returning to juniors. Which is a good thing for the Sabres and Grigorenko. He has played with John Scott or the third line for the beginning of the year and part of last year. He has top 6 talent playing with bottom 6 grinders and two way forwards.
Tampa Bay this year has brought up one of their great young prospects by the name of Connolly. He is now playing in the top six. The coaching staff said they did not want to play him on the third or fourth line. They said he had the skill for the top six and when that time came he would play in the NHL. That has translated into success for Connolly.
However, these statements are not roster moves themselves. The Remparts haven’t even heard about Grigorenko returning. Additionally, the fans in Buffalo are also looking for trades. They have a weak top six and can barely fill their bottom six. The Sabres have been in a “rebuild” for a little while now and things have only become worse. The Sabres are bottom feeders in the league and are hoping for good draft picks. They have a wide range of top 60 talent to choose from in the draft, but those players take time to develop.
The Sabres are between a rebuild and a quick few moves. Part of the team is veterans looking for a few pieces, and the other part is a young team looking to learn.. This team needs to find an identity and hopefully for the Sabres, these changes do.
